Heaven Official’s Blessing: Chinese Animation with Magnificent Story and Music

“Heaven Official’s Blessing” (天官赐福) is an animated series based on Chinese web novel that was written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and produced by Bilibili and Haoliners Animation League. They’re streaming on Netflix now with a total of 13 episodes, but they have actually been released since October 2020.

This animated series is about the Crown Prince of Xian Le named Xie Lian who ascended into the heaven to be god since his young age. The third time he arrived heaven in his 800 years, he broke the bell and was asked to turn back to mortal realm to gain merits. The two Deputy Gods, Nan Feng and Fu Yao, came to assist him. During his first task to fight the Ghost Bridegroom, Xie Lian put on stunning red wedding dress to bait the ghost. He met the (handsome) mysterious man who Xie Lian has assumed to be the Ghost Bridegroom at first. The mysterious guy, however, helped and led him to finish the task. It turned out that this man wasn’t a mortal or a typical ghost, but one of the Demon Kings whom the heaven avoided to encounter.

After the first mission, Xie Lian wished to build his own shrine once again after he has lost all faithfulness from the worshipers in his past incident. He met San Lang whose appearance and intelligence reminded Xie Lian of the Demon King, Hua Cheng. Xie Lian let him be part of his god journey without knowing that this Demon King has been waiting and caring him for so long.

My Personal Impression

The umbrella scene along with its music is a brilliant combination. Personally, I’m very into period movie and animation. So, this scene and the songs have given me a different romantic vibe. More than this, I’ve never imagined how Chinese would sound this elegant. It was very pleasing to my ears the whole 13 episodes. When the song came, I felt like I was Xie Lian even though I knew deeply that I was daydreaming. I’ve watched The Yin-Yang Master too and the language made me delightful the same.

The animation is a masterpiece. I’m not exaggerating. They give a pure and charming vibe as how they presented the Chinese culture. Especially when they showed the past scene of Xie Lian being a lovable god of his people before the incident. All I could say was ‘WOW’ because he was very charming.

*This part contains spoilers: I LOVE THE ENDING SCENE IN EPISODE 13! I curiously want to know about the ring Sang Lang gave to Xie Lian before he left the shrine. Yet, they created the animation very well that I only want to wait for the next season instead of getting the novels. There’s still a mystery about the boy with red scar in the earlier episode. I’m willing to know in the animation and to see the Deputy God assistants appear again. They made the story more fun and enjoyable.

I hope everyone would enjoy this Chinese animated series as I do. You can watch them on Netflix and Bilibili (in Chinese). These are the two magical songs that will blow your mind away while listening. Comment down below if you have already watched Heaven Official’s Blessing. It’s a pleasure for me to read your comments too!
